Before you can use medicine registration you must first create or load the journals distributed by the vet. If your veterinarian uses WinVet (a program used by some Danish vets) you may import the journals.
In order to use the medicine registration there are a couple of steps that are necessary to go through. Journals must be created and consist of a diagnosis and a medicament.
1. Register all diagnoses:
Go to "General" - "Medicine/vaccination" - "Diagnosis" and create the diagnoses by entering a unique code followed by the name of the diagnosis:

Go to "General" - "Medicine/vaccination" - "Medicament" and create the medicaments by entering a unique code followed by the name of the medicament:
3. Register all Journals:
Go to "General" - "Medicine/vaccination" - "Journals" and create all journals.
How to create journals:
- Code: Enter a code for the journal
- Type: Select whether the journal is a Prescription or a Vaccine
- Status: Change status to Active
- Pig type, diagnosis and medicament code: Select the pig type, diagnosis, and medicament in question. You can click on the registration field of each type and press F5 and click on the binoculars, to view all codes that can be used. Double click on the code in question to select it
- Treatment: Write the treatment text distributed by the vet
- Dosage ‘Kg pig’: Enter the dosage (e.g. 1ml) per X kg pig where X is the number in the Kg pig column.
- Kg pig: How many kg pig (e.g. 50) goes to one dosage (entered in Dosage ‘kg pig’)
- Average weight per pig: You have to register the average weight per pig (e.g. 200 kg for sows). The numbers above can be seen in the example below.
- Dosage per pig: You can see how much medicine is needed to treat the pig. This value is calculated by the program based on the three previous columns
- Withdrawal days: Enter the number of containment days
- Repeated treatment days: In the Repeat treatment days column you enter how many times and how often the animals are to be treated. This is entered in regard to the Treatment column. If the animal is to be treated three days in a row, it is written as 1,2,3 while if it is every other day a total of three times it is written as 1,3,5
If treatments are registered for more than one CPH No. (Farm), and the amount of medicine should be counted for each single farm, then the CPH No. have to be added for each Journal. In this case also CPH No. need to be added to the locations situated on the farms.
If PigVision Mobile Growers or PigVision Mobile Sows are used for entering treatment, you have to be consistent on CPH No. either use these in both "Locations" and "Journals" or in none of them.
Note: Do not just change the name on an old code if you want to reuse it for a new journal. If you do so the you change the name on all previous treatment on this code too.
If you want to reuse a code on a "Diagnose", "Medicament" or "Journal" you place the cursor on the code an press "F2". This opens the field for changes. Remember codes need to be unique for each table. If you have an old code you are not using anymore but want it for a new journal. Then start to rename the code on the old journal to another code. Then you can create new journal with the wanted code.
Import journals from WinVet
If your vet uses WinVet you may import the journals automatically instead of creating them manually. Follow these steps to import the journals:
- Go to "General entries" – "Vet visits".
- Click on your visit and press "Confirmed" for the consultation.
- A window will open in which you can view the journals the vet has distributed to the farm.
- It is important to check whether the journals are set up correctly, i.e.:
- The pig types are connected to the correct diagnose, medication and treatments
- The three columns “Dosage ‘Kg pig’”, “Kg pig”, and “Average weight per pig” are correct and corresponds to what’s written in the “Treatment” column:
- In the Dosage ‘Kg pig’ column there you should be a dosage (e.g. 1ml.) per X Kg. pig (where X is the number in Kg pig)
- In the Kg pig column you enter how many kg pig goes to one dosage (the dosage in Dosage ‘kg pig’), e.g. 50 kg to one dosage
- In the Average weight per pig column, you enter the average weight (e.g. 220 kg for a sow) which depends on pig type
- Containment days and repeat treatment days are correct
5. If the journals are set up correctly, click "Import journals" at the bottom of the window. Hereafter the journals can be viewed at "General" - "Medicine/Vaccination" - "Journal". 
6. If the journals are not set up correctly, please contact your veterinarian.
To correct journals with the correct information, click "Import Journals", go to manual creation of journals, and follow step 3 and onwards
Medicine registration
When the journals are created you are now ready to the medicine registration. The medicin registration is entered in PigVision based upon the "PigType" of the medicated animal.
Medicine registration for sows, boars, and piglets
Go to "Sows boars" - "Medicine".
Here you register all treatments for sows, boars, and piglets. When you register treatment for piglets you have to use the number of the sow. In order to make a medicine registration, follow these steps:
- Enter the code of medicine journal.
- Enter number of sow or boar.
- Enter event date.
- The amount of medicine will appear automatically, according to the settings of the journal.
If necessary, the amount can be changed manually during registration. - If you are treating suckling pigs, the number of suckling pigs must be entered in column "Nursing Piglets" - "Treated".
Medicine registration for progeny
Go to "Progeny" - "Medicine".
Here you register all treatments of progeny and breeding progeny except for piglets (you can also enter treatment for breeding progeny on individual basis as described for sows). When you register these treatments you need to link them to a location.
It is also required by law to register the weight of the treated pig(s).
To make a registration follow these steps:
- Enter the code of medicine journal.
- Enter event date.
- Enter location.
- Enter number of treated pigs.
- Weight and amount will appear automatically, according to the settings of the journal.
If necessary, it can be changed manually during registration
Retreatment
If the vet has distributed a journal that requires repeated treatment, you can use a retreatment list. If the animals do not occour on the retreatment list, check if you have filled in number of retreatments in "Repeat treatment days" in "Journals".
Go to "Management" - "Retreatment list".
Here you see the list of animals which (based on the journal, date, and first treatment) are to be treated again
From this window you can automatically register retreatment by registering the amount and check marking the “Performed” column.
Medicine withdrawal list
You can have a printed list all the animals which cannot enter slaughter according to withdrawal time (Slaughter stop).
Go to "Mangement" - "Restricted list".
Here, you can view a list of animals contained from/on a date you select. This is a list of animals that cannot be slaughtered in the near future. You setup the withdrawal time for a given medicament in the Journals setup.
Medicine registration as medicine accounting
The program has a set of tools you can use to keep an eye on medicine accounting and medicine usage.
- Go to "General entries" - "Medicine delivery".
Here, you can register what, when, and how much medicine has been delivered.
If your vet uses WinVet the deliveries will automatically be imported here, though you can also register it manually. Medicine delivery is a part of the Medicine usage report:
2. Go to "General entries" - "Medicine loss".
Here, you can register medicine loss, e.g. a dropped bottle of medicine. Medicine loss is a part of the Medicine usage report. 
3. Go to "Report" - "Medicine usage".
Here, you can view a medicine usage report of the herd.
