Solution
Enter an abortion event as a farrowing event in the following way:
Go to the usual place in the program where you normally enter farrowing data.
• Abortion date = Farrowing date
• Number of live-born piglets (LG) = 0
• Number of dead-born/mummified piglets (DG / AV) = 0
The program automatically determines whether it is an abortion based on the number of days of gestation:
• A gestation period of 0–109 days with no live-born piglets is classified as an abortion.
• FARM automatically assigns the remark 'Abortus/verwerpen' (Abortion).
Note:
• If the (abortion/farrowing) date entered is 109 days or later, it is no longer classified as an abortion but as a standard farrowing event.
In which cases must you also enter a weaning date for an abortion event?
In all cases where piglets are fostered onto the sow before the weaning date (piglet balance ≠ 0); the sow then becomes "lactating" and must also be weaned.
Can you foster piglets onto a sow in FARM after she has aborted?
Yes, this is possible. As soon as you place piglets with the sow—on the day of the abortion—the sow acquires the status 'lactating'.
